The Pilanesberg Game Reserve is in the
Bojanala Region of the North West Province, adjacent to Sun
City. Set in the crater of a long extinct volcano, the
Pilanesberg National Park is the
fourth largest game park
in South Africa and covers an area of 55 000 hectare.
Pilanesberg National Park accommodates
virtually every mammal of southern Africa. Also home to the "Big
Five", the beauty of
the Pilanesberg is reflected in a large central lake, the
Mankwe Dam.
The creation of the Game
Reserve is considered one of the most ambitious
programmes of its kind in the world.
Thanks to operation
Genisis in 1979, the Pilaneberg
National Park now has in excess of 7000 animals including
24 of the larger species.
